Preamble
Reason
Today's schools are mostly designed around centrally controlled administrative structures, so that learning activities are rigidly formatted to fit the convenience of administrators and teachers. Learners must always beg permissions from a central power system to determine what to learn. We believe that this centralized organizational structure of learning institutions is the reason that learning cannot take place voluntarily. The in-direction of motivation comes from the distorted political structures in schools. In other words we want all learners become aware of the three basic laws in self-directed learning:
- Learning from Direct Evidence 数据择优律
- Learning in an Evolving and Dynamic Context 成长率
- Leanring from the widest possible re-combinatorial facts 组合律
So that all learners must have access rights, and the skills to directly manage their learning process data and learning content data, they also must design their learning activities around a dynamically evolving learning target, so that what they learned would be compatible with the real evolving world, finally, they must be leveraging existing resources and technological protocols that can be recombined to produce new adoptive uses that may not be originally intended to perform certain tasks. These basic laws of collective learning must be enforced in the organizational structure and constitutional believes of the organizations, that is why we must write a constitution for all learners.
Purpose
Toyhouse aims at being an idealized and replicable organization structure of learners. In contrast, today's schools are less ideal, the teachers or school administrations do not have a flexible decision making structure to adjust learning activities according to the needs of learners. With Inter-networked technologies, it becomes possible to offer an alternative organizational approach to design and conduct learning acivities. Any curriculum plans should inform all learners have the rights to leverage available natural resources in a respective and conservative manner. They should also have access and knowledge to utilize openly shared technologies and intellectual content to enrich their lives. This is the purpose of education on both natural and social level. This is the first right of learners,
0. The right to utilize natural resources and publicly shared intellectual properties
To ensure that learning organizations can self-adapt to their respective operational environment, we will help learners to exercise their three other basic rights.
- Learners shall have rights to resolve conflicts
- Learners shall have rights to expense their own financial resources
- Learners shall have rights to express their own opinions publicly.
These basic rights are to be protected by the operational means of the learning organizations to be designed by our participants. These organizations can be schools, hackerspaces, makerspaces or any organizations or enterprises, even governments or inter-connected cyber-physical organisms. The purpose of this constitution is to abstractly prescribe an operational framework, or more commonly known, as an operating system kerne, that spells out the roles, the decision precedences, and the access rights of different kinds of registered parties, where these parties are humans, organizations, or machines. This constitution will prescribe the interfaces in the form of Logic Models or Design Contracts, so that participating agents can follow a publicly shared protocol to work or negotiate in an evolving context. When these protocols or operating kernels are to be changed, this constitution will be a reference point to include or to refer to these changes as constitutional amendments. Ultimately, the purpose of this constitution text is to serve as the "code" of collective decision making in the most broad possible sense, independent of the gender, race, age, physical features, even whatever material species of the participants. All participants are allowed to contribute as long as they contribute to the well-being of the collective knowledge. This constitution tries to define the boundaries between artificially defined rights to knowledge, and the dynamics of social transactions that lead to certain practical limitation of knowledge sharing. We hope that by evolving this "code" over time, this is constitutional text may prescribe the operational principles of a distributed cognitive awareness with out loss of generality.
