The human race of today has never before been in such dire need of independent thinkers and cooperative solution providers. This need has been driven by two counteracting forces on a massive scale – the human race’s insatiable demand for natural resources, and the needs in sustaining this civilization without endangering the global ecological system in the process.


现在的人类从未如此迫切地需要独立思考和提供合作解决方案的人。这一需求相当大程度上由两个相互制衡的力所推动——人类对于自然资源永远无法得到满足的需求,和在维续这个文明在进程中避免危害到全球生态系统的需要。


Knowledge required to tackle this urgent challenge is at best scattered. Subject-centered and exam-based educational systems have guided people to act on narrowly-focused, cut-throat competitions. As a result, people forget that the real purpose of knowledge is about developing synergistic common interests and eliminating global threats. To recover from this vicious cycle of ignorance, we not only need to nurture compassionate people, but also enable creative individuals and collaborative organizations to cultivate a coherent web of knowledge to tackle societal challenges. There is a generic way to formulate these challenges.


解决这一紧迫的挑战所需的知识最好是分散而综合的。但以单个学科为中心、以考试为基础的教育体系已经引导人们关注于狭义而残酷的竞争。结果是,人们忘记了知识真正的目的是在于协同地发展共同利益、消除全球性威胁。为了从这样一种无知的恶性循环中恢复过来,我们不止需要培养富有同情心的人,同时也需要使有创造力的个人和协作性组织能够去培育出一个紧密连贯的网络去解决社会挑战。有一个通用的方法适用于这些挑战。


First, we must learn to evolve existing industrial systems to become safe to the environment and to its inhabitants. Secondly, we must learn to offer lively services and healthy products that supply consumable resources and entertain our creative spirits. To balance the two counteracting forces, safety and liveness, we should define the process of creating and disseminating knowledge in generalizable, yet operational terms.


首先,我们必须学会演化现有的工业体系,使其变得对环境和居民友好安全。其次,关于消耗资源的消耗品,我们要提供更灵活的服务和健康的产品与之对应,同时刺激我们的创新精神。为了平衡这两个相互作用的力,安全性和灵活性,我们应该定义创造的过程,并传播通用的、同时可操作性强的知识。


We hereby define knowledge as “action guiding information”. To create knowledge, we need to guide people to become aware of safety-threatening or interest generating research topics, so as to entice top talents to devote focused efforts to act on challenges. To disseminate knowledge effectively, we need a coherent set of intensive, yet enjoyable learning activities that attracts all stakeholders to continue engaging their minds and hearts in these never-ending knowledge improvement exercises. To provide the guidance in learning and an information dissemination infrastructure, a new type of learning environment is needed. We therefore introduce our proposition – a space for “Learning by Playing” activities – Toyhouse.


在这里我们定义知识为“指导行动的信息”。为了创造知识,我们需要引导人们意识到这关乎安全威胁或者是从中有利益产生的话题,以吸引高级人才努力地投入解决这些挑战。为了更有效地传播知识,我们需要一套连续的、密集的同时愉悦的学习活动,以吸引所有相关者持续地全身心参与进这些永无止境的知识强化训练。为提供学习过程的指导和一个基础信息架构,一种全新的学习环境是必要的。因此我们在这里介绍下我们的提议——一个以“在玩中学”为目标的空间——Toyhouse。
